The Translagorai is a medium-distance trekking route that crosses the wild and unspoiled Lagorai mountain range in Trentino, following its ridgeline. It starts from the Valsugana valley and reaches the Dolomites near San Martino di Castrozza and Passo Rolle.
What makes this trek special is its untouched, wilderness character, developing over wide open spaces where you’ll often feel completely immersed in nature—except for more touristic spots like Passo Manghen or Passo Rolle.
The total distance and elevation gain depend on the specific route chosen. In general, the classic Translagorai covers between 75 and 85 km, with a total elevation gain of 5,000 to 6,500 m.
To enjoy the stages without pushing to the limit (i.e. 2,000 meters of elevation gain per day), most people choose to complete the Translagorai in 5 days and 4 overnight stays. For a more sporty version, it can be done in 4 days with 3 overnight stays, covering more kilometers per day.
To be clear, the classic Translagorai covers approximately 75 to 80 kilometers.
If completed over 5 days, each stage will generally involve an elevation gain of 900 to 1,100 meters and cover an average distance of 15 km per day.
If you choose the 4-day version, expect daily ascents between 1,300 and 1,600 meters and distances ranging from 17 to 20 km per day.
