A loop trail for truly unstoppable hikers: a grand high-altitude itinerary that links ancient reconditioned tracks and CAI trails to complete a full circuit around the central massif of Cima D’Asta.
We’re talking about the GIRO DEL ZIMON.
This trail is suitable for well-trained hikers, with more than 1,800 meters of elevation gain and nearly 10 hours of hiking if done in a single day starting from Malga Sorgazza.
It can also be split over two days with an overnight stay at the Rifugio Cima d’Asta.
Between passes and saddles, it offers breathtaking panoramic views!
From Località Sorgazza, follow the gravel road to Teleferica Brusà.
Take trail 327, which in about 3 hours leads to the Rifugio Cima d’Asta “Ottone Brentari” (2,480 m).
From there, take trail 375 for a few minutes to Passo Socede, then turn right onto trail 392 (EE difficulty), a long traverse over boulder fields and scree, on a clearly visible path, up to Forcella Coronon. Descend 50 m, then ascend another 70 m to reach Forcella de Medo.
Descend on moderately difficult terrain — keep your eyes sharp and your legs ready.
At Lago del Bus (a natural balcony overlooking the Lagorai chain), a dip in the alpine lake feels almost mandatory.
From there, head right toward Forcella Col del Vento, crossing a ridge that leads to the granite gully just below the saddle. Then again right onto trail 363 (Sentiero del Col del Vento). A short exposed section is secured with side ropes.
You’ll reach the junction for the summit of Cima d’Asta — and at that point, climbing to the top comes naturally.
The final push brings you to Forzelletta (2,680 m), with a brief section secured by ropes.
Descend back to the Rifugio Cima d’Asta, where you can rest overnight.
Return via the panoramic Sentiero della Campagnassa (trail 386).
