Nestled among lush meadows and enchanted forests, Val Campelle is home to a magical plain gently crossed by the crystal-clear waters of the Rio Casarine. Here lies Rifugio Caldenave, one of the Lagorai huts: a charming haven suitable for every hiker, a base for mountaineers, and a special retreat offering rest, peace, and tranquility to mountain lovers of all ages.
To reach Rifugio Caldenave from the SS47 highway, take the exit at Strigno and follow signs for Rifugio Crucolo in Val Campelle. Continue until you reach località Tedon, where a parking lot is located.
From there, a forest trail alongside a stream will take you to the hut in about 1.5 hours, at an elevation of 1,800 meters. You can return via a panoramic loop, passing by Malga Nassere and the Nomadi Trail, descending to Rifugio Carlettini and back to località Tedon.
Rifugio Caldenave welcomes you with its magical and informal atmosphere. The manager, Guido Trevisan, and his team ensure you feel at home, offering warm hospitality with dishes prepared by Chef Massimo and a good drink—all with respect for the enchanting place they call home.
The cuisine is simple yet refined, offering a journey through local flavors. Traditional dishes are crafted from carefully selected ingredients, with a wide range of vegetarian options, some vegan choices, and attention to food intolerances. Everything is made fresh in-house.
In addition to its restaurant service, the hut offers 24 beds for overnight stays, divided into dormitories of 6 or 8 people, catering to outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Guests can relax in a cozy common room featuring board games, playing cards, and art supplies. A “Libreria in Quota” (Mountain Library) offers a curated selection of books to browse or purchase.
Rifugio Caldenave is a place that encourages you to slow down and connect with nature. There’s no WiFi here by choice—disconnecting is a luxury that promotes relaxation, conversations with fellow hikers, and shared experiences.
The hut’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that “we are guests of the mountains,” inviting respect, care, and authentic living. This ethos is reflected in sustainable practices: composting, renewable energy, biodegradable detergents, bulk beverages, a seasonal organic menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, and many other thoughtful measures.
Children are also involved in environmental awareness, creating signs to encourage respect for the surroundings. Thanks to this commitment, the hut is certified with the Ecoristorazione Trentino label.
Several trails start from Rifugio Caldenave, each with its own unique charm. In just 40 minutes, you can reach the picturesque Laghetti dell’Inferno and follow a loop trail passing by Lago Nassere, descending to the nearby Malga Nassere, and returning to Tedon.
For those seeking a multi-day adventure, the Alta Via del Granito offers a 3-4 day trek through spectacular landscapes. Whatever path you choose, you’ll be rewarded with postcard-perfect views and an unforgettable immersion in the pristine beauty of the Lagorai range.
